What is PACE?
PACE is MCWH’s empowerment program redefining leadership for migrant and refugee women and gender-diverse people. PACE supports participants in strengthening their skills to become leaders in their lives, work, and community, here in Australia.
MCWH has been running PACE programs since 2010. In the last 16 years, 650 women and gender diverse people from more than 50 cultures graduated from PACE.
Through PACE, participants will build skills and confidence to:
- Participate in the workforce, family or community life
- Advocate on issues that concern them to affect change
- Communicate their leadership qualities and skills
- Engage with others in solidarity and support
PACE is based on four guiding principles that together, aim to increase migrant and refugee women and gender diverse people's capacity to:
- Participate in work, local, and community life (Eg. Education, community organising, applying for jobs, joining social groups)
- Advocate on migrant women’s issues (Eg: Mental health awareness, women’s safety, discrimination in the workplace)
- Communicate your leadership qualities and skills to others (Public speaking, everyday communication, job interview, working in teams)
- Engage with issues and other people in the community to provide ongoing support to each other
Many people think that leadership means becoming a manager or a councillor. At MCWH, we think that anyone can become a leader by using these four PACE skills to stand up for themselves on issues that affect them and their community, and to participate in their work or community.
