The Health in My Language (HiML) project is a national initiative led by the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH), working in partnership with organisations across every state and territory in Australia.
HiML exists to make sure migrant and refugee communities have access to clear, accurate, and culturally relevant health information — in their own language. In 2024, the project focused on four key sexual and reproductive health topics:
-
Understanding menopause
-
Safer sex
-
Contraception choices
-
Pregnancy choices
To understand the impact of this work, MCWH engaged Clear Horizons to evaluate the program. Their findings, captured in the HiML 2024–25 Evaluation Report, were launched at the first-ever in-person My Health, My Language Forum on 19 September 2025. The event brought together Health in My Language educators from around the country and was officially opened by The Hon. Rebecca White, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Indigenous Health and Women.
The evaluation revealed powerful results: through Health in My Language, migrant and refugee women not only gained vital knowledge about sexual and reproductive health but also felt more confident sharing what they had learned with others and seeking health services for themselves.
The summary report highlights key lessons, participant insights, and data on knowledge gains and program impact, along with clear recommendations for building on this success and making HiML even more effective in the years ahead.
