industry visits program |
Multicultural Centre for Women's Health has been conducting
Industry Visits since 1978. The Industry Visits Program (IVP)
runs health information sessions for women in the workplace. These visits are conducted by
Multicultural Centre for Women's Health's bilingual Community Health Educators, who are trained to discuss
sensitive women's issues in a non-threatening and safe environment.
When and where are Visits
held?
Visits usually take place in women's workplaces during their lunch breaks. We offer five
to six sessions at each workplace and can be very flexible depending on the needs
identified by the workplace.
If women workers prefer, sessions can also be organised outside of the workplace and/or
outside of working hours at a suitable and convenient location. One-to-one information
sessions in women's homes can be organised for home-based outworkers, or for other women
who are unable to participate in a group visit.
Who conducts
these sessions?
Trained bilingual Health Educators conduct the sessions in a very informal way to respond
to issues raised by women workers during a visit. Sessions are conducted following the
Multicultural Centre for Women's Health woman-to-woman
approach, which encourages women to share health information
within a group, or on an individual basis. The bilingual Health Educators use visual aids,
provide multilingual written information, and make referrals and suggestions to assist
women to access their local health services.

of the women. We offer visits in a range of languages including: Amharic,
