Violetta Marcianó
Bilingual Health Educator
Language(s): Italian
I have been the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health Italian Bilingual Health Educator for seven years. In my health promotion work with women, I reinforce the importance of taking care of ourselves, our bodies and our emotional health. I believe in a holistic approach to health and wellbeing which when realised empowers all women in taking control of their lives. The more informed women are, the better decisions they can make.
Although I was raised in a family of five brothers and no sisters I have always valued the role of women, which all too often goes underappreciated.
Part of my work ethic is to strive to increase the recognition of women and what they contribute.
My mother was a major influence on me, enforcing the idea that women have a right to be healthy, happy,
independent, strong and powerful, something I wish had been more her own experience.
I arrived in Australia from Italy, 40 years ago.
I began my career in community work in 1974 as a migrant community worker. I have also worked as a pharmacy assistant. Currently I am running QUIT and Cancer Council Victoria workplace health workshops, along with my role at Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health.
More recently I have also been employed as a case manager with DHS for their bushfire recovery project.
