Dr Millsom S Henry-Waring
MCWH Board Member
I am a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and I am currently a joint Chief Investigator on an ARC Linkage Project within the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne.
My research and teaching explores notions of difference, otherness, and blackness and whiteness, specifically in the areas of identity, intimacy, popular culture, new technologies, nationalism, and multiculturalism from perspectives within Critical Black Studies; Gender/Women's Studies; and Post-Colonial Studies. My current research projects focus on: Black British and other feminisms; visible migrants and refugees in rural and regional Australia; whiteness; mixed and multiple identities; and notions of otherness and intimacy on and offline.
I am delighted to serve as a board member for MCWH as it provides a unique opportunity to listen to, provide advice and help shape policy to an organisation at the forefront of delivering key services to multicultural women about health and work. It is also an important avenue for me to feel grounded by applying my academic interests and experiences into real-life settings and to work with a number of professional women from a range of different public and private sectors.
